A New Year

Tomorrow begins a new year.  How fast did it go for you?  So fast for me.  This year brought the blessing of a new baby.  It brought many trials with illness for me.  Each of my children have had a birthday, and are yes, shockingly another year older!  The time just flies.   Am I using my time well?

That is what is on my heart as I begin this new year.  I want each day to be one well spent, no matter if it goes according to plan or not.  I want to have a plan that is flexible, and if my plan gets thrown off course, I want to keep plodding away instead of getting frustrated and giving up.  I want to remember that this life is not a race to be run quickly, like a sprint, but instead a slow, steady course for me to travel along, working diligently and heartily with joy.

Part of being able to take a slow and steady pace is removing yet more clutter from our home.  Each item we keep must be cared for, cleaned, and/or walked around if it is in the way.  In our small home with eight people I constantly feel the burden of having too much stuff.  When we have too much stuff it steals our time away from doing what really matters and spending time with those we love.  I want my goal this year to be "Simplify, simplify, simplify".  With simplicity comes more time and space for what really matters.  I will be evaluating all the "stuff" in our home and getting rid of what is not needed or used or loved.  I have so much to love and care for with a husband and six children.  All that steals away from them must go.

God bless you as you begin the new year with the Lord Jesus Christ as your focus!

Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 3:13-14)
