Burdened with Worry

I am sorry I have not posted much lately.  I am sure you know my family and duties here must come first.  Some times I cannot write what I am thinking because it is so overwhelming.  That is how I felt this past week.  I was overwhelmed with worry.  Worry about so many things!  I'm not even going to list my worries here because they might overwhelm you by just reading them!  But worry should not take hold of the believer.  We should give our burdens to the Lord, trusting Him that He has all things under control.  We need to do the best we can with what we have been given, and let God take care of the rest.

Sacred Trust

Worry is just another word for fear.

I could go on and on about where this is found in God's Word.  Can you think of anything?

When we start to worry and fret about things, we need to remember this verse:

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. (Philippians 4:6)

  • That word careful there means to be anxious about: - (be, have) care (-ful), take thought.
  • for nothing means- not even one (man, woman, thing): - any (man, thing), no (man), none, not (at all, any man, a whit), nothing, + without delay. (emphasis mine)
  • In every thing we need to do this
  • by prayer, supplication, and thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.  Notice, it said thanksgiving.  So I believe, when we are tempted to be anxious, we need to stop and give God thanks, along with making supplication to God.
  • When we believe that God will help us, it makes such a difference.  That doesn't mean we will get whatever we want.  It means we believe Him "...that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose."  (Romans 8:28)
When we are overcome with worry, we cannot enjoy all of the wonderful gifts God has given us.  We forget to be thankful, and life looks dreadful instead of full of the glory of the Lord.  We can choose to look at God's goodness and trust in Him, or we can dwell on whatever goes wrong and is imperfect  in our lives and in the world.

Here are some more verses to meditate on:

Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?  Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?   Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?   And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:   And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.   Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?   Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?   (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.   But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. (Matthew 6:25-33)

And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind. (Luke 12:29)

And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.   Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.  But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.  Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.  (Matthew 10:28-31)

And this...

He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful.  (Matthew 13:22)

Do you think because of being consumed with the cares of this world, we can become unfruitful?

Let us remember this:

Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.  (1 Peter 5:7)

I hope to make visits soon and see how you all are doing.

Many blessings.

  1. 1 peter 5:6 "therefore humble yourself before the mighty hand of God, and he will lift you up in due time"

It does makes the last verse you posted in context

We can cast our anxiety on God but we must be humble first what a neat concept, don't you think :-)

  2. Dear Mrs. Q,

I am sorry to hear that you are being overwhelmed with worry.

Being worried about things is something that I struggle with too, and it's not always pleasant. I truly appreciated your post on worry though. I need to work upon trusting the Lord with my concerns and being thankful for all the wonderful blessings that He has given to me that I truly don't deserve.

At any rate, take care Dear Mother, and I pray that the Lord will take care of all your worries.

    Blessings & Friendship,

    -LR

  3. Yes, thank you Mrs. Stam for pointing that out. I think I was getting hurried at the end--nursing time was done :) The preceding Scripture does make it more clear

1 Peter 5:6-7 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

Thank you so much, Lady Rose, and for sharing honestly. I think we women are more subject to worries and fears...probably one of the reasons we are called "the weaker vessel". I take comfort though, in God's protection over us, as long as we are submitted unto Him.

  5. Dear Mrs Q

I too have been overwhelmed by worry for the past few weeks, and reading this wonderful post has really encouraged me. God is faithful in all he does, so we shouldn't worry so much. I thank the Lord for using you to remind me of this. I feel so much better now. You truly are a blessing.

  7. Hi Mrs. Q:
I'm sorry you have been having a difficult week. One of the things I have learned through various trials and illnesses: is that God has never allowed anything to happen that was more than I could bear. Life might take us to the very edge sometimes, but we always have that tender assurance. I have also found that no matter what the problem is: death, sickness, finances ect., nothing has ever played out quite the way I imagined it would in my imagination. Always, at the last minute there is an unexpected turn, a way out, a hand to hold or a subtle gift of hope or encouragement to help shore me up. Keep hanging in there and I hope that you will find some relief very soon. Delisa :)

  9. I understand so very well being overwhelmed with worry! I struggle with that myself sometimes. Yet amazingly, the things that I worry over always seem to work out somehow. One would think after a while I would realize I can trust God completely, but it seems it is a lesson I'm still learning.

I have been neglecting my own blog lately as well, and I really need to get more posts up. Sometimes life does get in the way a bit, and there are only so many hours in a day.

I hope you have a very pleasant, worry-free weekend, my sister in Christ! :)
