The Lovely Kitchen

The Kitchen
The Kitchen

This week I am dedicating to my kitchen.  Whenever I have time allotted for cleaning, I am using it for the kitchen.  It is always a pleasure to make the home more beautiful, and the kitchen is like the center of the home, always busy and bustling with activity.  So it gets rather dirty!

On Monday I assigned several of the children a drawer to clean out.  I made them each a chore card with a picture and instructions on exactly what to do to clean it out--first take everything out, then vacuum the drawer, then wipe it out, and then finally replace everything neatly.  They actually had lots of fun with it.  I will also use these chore cards for other rooms of the house when I need them to organize a drawer there.

We will also need to devote some time to the appliances.  I think I will have each child clean an appliance as well.  They like to clean things they don't normally clean every day.  It is more exciting to them!  How wonderful that God blessed me with so many girls, because they really enjoy learning more about caring for the home so they will be prepared for their future roles of homemakers.

Hopefully by the end of this week we will have a lovely kitchen, or at least a more lovely kitchen!

Do you like to focus on one room each week?  Or how do you do your deep cleaning?

  1. I think the chore cards that you have given to your girls to help them to their chores more efficiently is an excellent idea. Of course, I am trying to imagine what your illustrations looked like. Since I can't draw very well, if I had daughters, they might still be confused, ha, ha!

As far as cleaning goes, when I truly want to clean a room completely, I do one room at a time. It's the easiest way, as I can concentrate on one spot of the room at a time without too many distractions.

  2. No, clean what needs to be cleaned. But usually in summer I re organise my kitchen cupboards and throw away anything that is damaged. I always got my sons to help which taught then how to manage a kitchen. My married son now has a lovely organised kitchen (he does all the cooking). It always feel good to do a spring clean.

  3. I'm planning to do this same thing very soon! We spend a lot of time in the kitchen, and since we have our dining table in the same room (a "country kitchen" kind of arrangement), it can get disorderly pretty fast. Giving the children a drawer to clean out is a great idea!

  4. I tried focusing on a different room every week a couple of months ago, but it seems that it just doesn't work for me. I guess that you are better organized than me, so keep on with the good work!

  5. Aceclean, I think your approach is as wrong as it gets. The only way to really cope with the problem is to do the whole thing at once. I know it may sound too tiring, but this is the answer.

  6. I really like to give my kitchen a good clean too. My husband loves nothing better than to see a shiny sink with the dishes all put away. I, on the other hand, am used to keeping the dishes in the dishrack. But I had to readjust to the way my hubby likes me to do things when we got married! I love your blog. come see me at Heart of Her Owner! I am doing a proverbs 31 study right now.
