The Little Homemaker

Illustration of Mother and Daughter Baking Together by Douglass Crockwell
A little girl, growing older (at the age of ten), noticed her wearied mother was still asleep in the morning.  Instead of playing a game, she looked around the house for something to do.  She noticed clothes were left in the washer, and she hung the proper clothes up to dry, and put the others in the dryer and started the cycle, just like Mother had taught her.  Then she went into the kitchen and started cooking the oatmeal for the family, just as Mother had taught her.  Mother woke up from the sound of pots banging around in the kitchen, to see this lovely sight and hear the lovely sounds of the dryer already started by her Little Homemaker.  She smiled and thanked her little girl, who was learning just what to do in the home!

Now, could this have happened if Mother hadn't trained her daughter to do these things in the home?  Probably not.  God bless you, Mothers, as you train up Future Homemakers!

  1. And sons, one day they may need to help their mothers, wives, mother-in-law . My dad cared for my mum for 9 years, and he need all these skills. My son does all the cooking in his home as he loves doing it. And when I returned home on Sunday from visiting my parents, my son made me the best chocolate cake.

  3. I'm thinking one of your older girls did this for you? :) It's a blessing to "see" and read about these little homemakers "in action." You are right, mothers need to train their daughters to care for the home so it will become important to them.

Such a nice story you shared with us today. :)
