Top Tips: How to Organize Your Bedroom

Cosmetics Executive Elizabeth Arden Graham Choosing Wardrobe from Bedroom Closet

(Guest Post)

You might think about your bedroom and have the mentality that you don’t spend a great deal of time in there, other than when sleeping, so you’re not going to be too concerned about keeping it tidy and organized at all times. However, you may live to regret that mentality when you can’t find something important that you always wear to outings, or need to get dressed quickly.

Here are some top tips for bedroom organization that will ensure you’re never caught out at the most inopportune of times.

Keep Wardrobes Tidy

Okay, so we know that you’re not always going to stop to pick up the shirt that fell off the hanger every time you get dressed. However, not going back later when you’re under less pressure and stress will mean that, by the end of the week, you’re left with a pile of shirts that need to be pressed again. In fact, because you’re so disheartened by it, you’ll probably just pick up the pile and throw it all in the laundry, wasting time and increasing your electricity bill for no reason, other than the fact you were a little lazy.

Once you’ve got your wardrobe tidy, it takes 5 minutes a day, if that, to maintain it and keep it in good condition. This is probably the biggest aspect of bedroom organization; getting it right will save you time and stress like you’d never believe.

Where are Your Essentials?

A bedside unit should have nothing on it other than a lamp and the book you were reading before going to sleep. If you don’t read in bed, then you might not need a lamp or a unit.

The point we’re getting at is that you need to think about where to keep your essentials. Keys, wallet/purse, smartphone, and anything else you might need. In a drawer close to the bedroom door is usually best; keeping them with your daily cosmetics is often a good idea as you’ll never leave without them.

There are a few reasons behind this. First, as silly as it sounds, you might knock something off a unit in the night, or even move it without realizing, which wastes time in the morning, especially if you think you might have lost something! Second, it stops you looking at your phone, in particular, in bed.

You see, being organized is beneficial in several ways!

Layout

You’re in a hurry and need to be out of the door as quickly as possible. You need to ensure your bedroom is laid out in a way that is going to help you achieve this objective. Think about your morning routine; do you shower or bathe in the morning or are you straight up and out of bed before getting dressed? Do you use cosmetics prior to getting dressed, or is it the last thing you do?

It sounds boring, but making the layout of your bedroom ‘flow’ in line with your routine will make your life much easier.

Organize Your Bedroom

It might not sound like much fun, but having an organized bedroom is great for efficiency, as well as for your own mental well-being when you don’t want any more pressure or stress than you’re already dealing with!

  1. I love these tips. I have to admit that I have neglected the bedroom for far too long now. It's a sorry dumping ground for everything that hasn't had a place yet, need to be fixed, sorted or washed etc...

Maybe I should do that room next :-)

  2. I'm a bit of a neat freak so I keep our bedroom very tidy!! Something I like in my bedroom is pretty boxes, they look lovely on a shelf and they are inexpensive. I picked up some lovely pink ones with flowers the other day and stacked them the shelf and they add colour and style.

    1. I don't see a lot of pretty boxes around here, but I'd love to use them. There always seems to be a need for storage space and what a lovely way to do it.

  4. I enjoy being organized! I'm not perfect but I try. The closet is easy as I don't have a ton of clothing. Towels are neatly stacked on the shelf with the pillowcases and sheets are in the cupboard on Jack's side of the room. My bobby pins, hairnets, etc are kept in a nice glass bowl on my vanity, my kapp hangs on it's hook next to the vanity and the couple extra are in a drawer. I like to use baskets and such for storage too.

  6. I think the most important thing that should always be kept in mind is to keep things in a organized manner. You should have place for keeping each and every item in your room and should keep things where they belong. You feel happy when your room looks tidy.
