The Lord Works in Our Children's Hearts

I have a daughter who keeps being late with her chores.  Most of my children have chores that they help me with after each meal.  From sweeping, to washing dishes, to loading the dishwasher, wiping the counters...everyone has a job to do to help out.  But I have one little dawdler right now.

She didn't get her chores done this evening again.

The children were in bed after I prayedwith each one.  I traipsed out to the kitchen to start meal preparation for tomorrow.  Then I saw...

the table!

Oh, she had neglected to get her chores done again.  Dirty dishes were all over the place.  I looked despondently at the mess and thought to myself there was no way I would get all that cleaned up this evening.  I was already exhausted.

I decided to announce to my two daughters who were awake, "Who would like to earn $.10 for doing the dishwasher?"  It still had to be unloaded and then loaded with all the dirty dishes.  I don't normally pay for chores like this, but this was something extra I needed done.  I wanted to wake up to a clean kitchen.

No one replied, as they were both immersed in books.  I kind of sighed and just continued on with my breakfast preparations...I resolved that I would have no additional help...

Then shortly Creative came in and started unloading the dishwasher.  With ease she put away the dishes and scraped and rinsed the dirty ones before loading them in.  I was happy to have a kitchen helper.

When she was all finished, I inquired as to if she had somewhere to keep her $.10 right now, as it might wake her siblings if she went into her room to put it away.  She replied, with a sweet smile, "I did it for free."

Oh, I was so thankful to hear that.  So very, very thankful.  That means she did it out of the kindness of her heart, to help her mama and make the house pretty, and not to earn a little extra money.

I went over to her, hugged and kissed her, and told her how thankful I was for her.

She used to be such a dawdler herself.  I'm so thankful that the Lord works in our children's hearts.
