Today is What We Have

This is somewhat of a letter to myself, but maybe you can benefit....

You need to stop worrying about those "what-if's" and just live in today and focus on that.  God gives us what we need for today, financially and otherwise.  We can never keep all the bad things from happening.  We can only do so much and then the rest is in God's hands.  Stop thinking about all the bad things that can happen.  Work with what you have today.  Work with that and be thankful that you have this day of breath, this day to enjoy and work and praise God.  God alone knows what the future holds.  God alone knows what tomorrow holds.  We cannot possibly know what will happen nor does it do any good to worry what will happen anyway.  We do have this promise:

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28)

Enjoy today, work today, pray today, because you don't know if you have tomorrow.  Get done what you can today.  Do the important things.  Maintain the house, but don't run over your children in the process.  Don't push your husband aside because you're too busy.

Don't be ungrateful.  Every thing you have is a gift.  Every thing.  Not just the things that work properly or give you peace.  Peace of mind comes from God alone and trusting in Him.

Smile.  A smile is worth a thousand words.  So is a scowl.  Ew.  Which do you want your children and husband to remember?

Remember your blessings.  Count them.  Write them down.  Tell God.  Thank Him.  Stop looking at what is wrong because we are in a sin-streaked, imperfect world, and it will never be perfect here!  Again, do your best with what you have been given.  Don't complain that God hasn't given you more or given to you differently.

Nothing is sweeter to read than the pure, Word of God.  Other things may be pleasant, but they were written by fallible people.  God's Word is perfect and true.  Always.

Dear readers:

If you have read this far, thank you.  I miss you and will try to visit you soon.

  1. Hi,
I really needed to read this tonight. I am sorry that the past couple of days I have been in a dark cloud...feeling worried and sorry for myself. My husband had a mild heart attack 2 weeks ago and we now know that he has cardio myopathy and that is very scary news. Plus we are in the process of possibly losing our home because of a huge paycut over the past 6 months....so I really needed to hear this Mrs. Q...thank you!

  3. Jenny May~I am glad to hear from you. I am sorry to hear about your husband. I understand about the dark cloud. Sometimes one of worry hovers over me too. Please do not be scared. Just do your best to be a cheerful wife, feed him healthy food (if you need help, you can ask me :) ), pray for your dear man, and trust that God has it all in control. Please know I am and will be praying for you and your family.

Nabila~so good to see you too!

  6. This is a wonderful letter Mrs Q!
Thank you for letting us read over your shoulder.
To be thankful for today is so necessary, because we truly don't know what tomorrow holds.
I am thinking of the heartache being experienced right now by our nearest neighbours in New Zealand.
They had a massive earthquake in their capitol city at lunchtime today and many are dead and injured.
It's sobering to see how life can change in a matter of seconds.
Your words are so true.."everything is a gift".
Indeed it is - every day we have and every breath we breathe!!
    grace & joy..Trish

  9. You have a wonderful gift for writing, I have been reading many of your posts and so many are encouraging, and convicting :) I have 5 little kiddos - and very little sleep and often feel like I can't give or do enough - there just isn't any thing left for me to give... your words are encouraging, gentle and thought-provoking... Guiding me back toward the woman that God wants me to be.

  11. Mrs. Q, again I find myself thinking of how true your words are.

Our time should be wisely spent for the days are fleeting. It's a sobering thought the older one gets.

    Thank you so much.
