Tell the Young Women

Someone needs to tell young women that it will rip their heart out to say goodbye every day when they drop their baby off at daycare to go to work. Someone needs to warn them that it will hurt deeply to have their baby's first smiles and first words and first steps witnessed by someone else because they weren't there. It's going to be traumatic to have their child cry and cling to them, begging them not to leave again, and worse when they walk away and don't even bother to say goodbye because it's normal not to have mom around. We have to tell young women the truth about human biology and psychology. Our society is in denial.

How have we, as a society, decided that it's normal and fine to separate a mother from her small child for most of the waking hours of most days? How did we get duped into thinking that babies getting a bottle from a stranger is the same as being nursed by the mother whose womb carried them and whose voice they know and whose heart cherishes every little expression and sound? Do we really believe that love doesn't matter to little ones? That merely keeping them alive and perhaps entertained is enough?
What too often happens is that women are taught from a young age to build their life around their career. So they rack up tens of thousands of dollars in student loan debt, and they buy a house and two cars based on two incomes. They're dependent on their job to cover their debt and expenses. When they finally decide they're ready for a baby, they think they can just put baby in daycare and go back to work. It sounds like a perfect plan...until you actually have a baby and you bond with that baby and you see how much that baby needs their mom.

Women need to understand the needs of babies and factor that into their plans. If you wait until you're stuck in a 2-income lifestyle to find out that mothers and babies belong together, then you're often unable to escape the heart-wrenching guilt and trauma of leaving your baby and the harm to the child from not having their loving mother with them. If we stop pretending babies are mere possessions that only need impersonal inputs like food and shelter and start remembering that they're people who need love and nurturing, maybe we can start building lifestyles that take those needs into consideration. A baby doesn't just need any old caregiver. They need their mother, specifically. No one can replace her.

If we tell these things to young women before they go off to college and build a career and marry expecting to have two incomes, then they can plan accordingly. Ladies, think carefully before taking on large debt that will require you to work consistently for a decade or more to pay it off. Live on one income when you marry and save the second income (if you have one) for a rainy day. Don't buy a house or a car based on having to keep two incomes indefinitely to pay for it. Plan for the ability to stay home with your children, or at least work from home. Plan for the needs of your future children. One day, you'll be glad you did.

~Lindsay Harold

My note:  I agree with all of the above except I'd like to point out that a wife needs no "second income" or to work from home.  We need to get back to the thinking of a family living off of the husband's income, no matter what it is, & relying on the family learning to live frugally instead of the wife seeking to earn an income.   Be blessed, dear Christian homemakers 💕

Gone Before You Know It

One day, it will all be gone.

Those sleepless nights you thought you'd never get through.

The waking babies who constantly need you.

The sick little one with an earache or tummy trouble in the night.

Days where your toddler wants you to read the same book twenty-one times in a row...

Gone.

Those days when you think you will always be pregnant and you think you can't get through another one.

You can choose to skip a few years of babies, can't you?

You think your fertility will last forever.

But one day it will be gone.

One day you'll be sad at the negative tests and wish for just one more sweet babe to hold in your arms...

Or maybe the babies will come but they'll die in your womb, leaving their broken bodies behind with your broken heart...

All gone.

Those days when your house is full of many little ones,

each needing your attention and help for many things.

How will you ever get through these days of so many?

But one day, those days will be gone.

The unkind words, the arguments amongst your children.

The dirty floors.

The piles of laundry.

The spills and the broken glasses.

The piles of school books all over the house.

It will be gone.

The children will grow up and grow out of needing you all the time.

You'll wonder if you did enough, cared enough, taught enough.

To your dear little ones and growing up ones.

Hopefully they will marry, and you hope they will live close by!

But they may move further

And then they'll be gone.

So, let us treasure, each day, each hour, every moment...

Because one day, it will be all gone.

Church is a Lonely Place for Homemakers

https://www.artranked.com/images/a7/a75aae31ec2a3ed3cb787fd2df630e7f.jpg

Time and time again I've had Christian homemakers, Biblical keepers-at-home, write in to me and say how lonely it is at church because the church is full of feminists.  It feels so lonely there because in a time for having fellowship, the other women are all talking about their work week.  Instead of talking about their week spent at home preparing lovely meals for their husbands, teaching their children about the world God made, cleaning the home, sharing time management tips, or even about difficulties with parenting children, many Christian women think they have now found their "higher purpose" in having a job outside of the home.  Even if their children are all grown and out of the house, they very rarely relate to the younger women who are in the throws of raising a family because their minds are consumed with holding down a paying job.  This is not how the Bible says it should be.

The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;

That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,

To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

(Titus 2:3-5)
Besides this, the mother at home is often neglected in sermons and rarely receives any encouragement for her good works at home (though in some churches, praise thankfully still happens).  Perhaps the preacher is afraid of offending the working wives if he praises the keepers at home too much.  Sermons may only center on a few favorite verses or focus always on evangelism, and often home life that applies to mothers, fathers, and children is sadly left out.  Homemakers then often get the feeling that their work is not important, or is less important, because after all, they are not out "winning souls" like the men.

But.....

I want to encourage you...

Your work at home is important.

It does matter.

Even if no one acknowledges it or says a single word about it...

Even if there is no one at church to talk to about womanly things (keeping a home, raising children, teaching your children, loving and serving in your home)...

God sees you...

And He values what you are doing.

As a bonus, we now have the internet where we can find like-minded women who love serving their families at home!  I'm so thankful that there are still women writing lovely blogs in between taking care of their families (or even when their families have grown), so we can learn from each other and still have a bit of "Titus 2".

So despite discouragements we may have, let's labor on in love for our families, and may we one day hear from the Lord Jesus Christ, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant."

{Time Sensitive} One Last Reminder

Just a quick post today to remind you that it's the last day that you can purchase the Home Management bundle.  I know I sometimes forget things like this, so I just wanted to send you a quick reminder.

Also, you don't have to use everything in the bundle if you purchase it!  I know there are so many products, and it can seem overwhelming to think you have to use it all, but you don't.  Even if you only see two to three things you might find helpful, it's well worth the purchase price.  For instance, some of the included products I find most interesting are in the Cleaning & Decluttering section which includes 1 eBook, 4 eCourses, 1 Planner & 2 Printables.  There is the Family Home Hub Setup course, the Family Systems and Charts, Simplifying Cleaning Routines Bundle, and more...Oh...there are so many things that look good.  There is a section on homeschooling that looks wonderful as well--including a musical instrument course and notebooking pages, plus the Busy Mom's Home Management Bundle (I need that).  I could go on and on, but these are just a few examples of things that immediately caught my eye.

 You also have access to all of the products for life--just download what you want within six months time.  I hope you find these resources useful in your home.

 Here's how much time is left!

Do You Ever Feel Like This?

"A woman once fretted over the usefulness of her life. She feared she was wasting her potential being a devoted wife and mother. She wondered if the time and energy she invested in her husband and children would make a difference. At times she got discouraged because so much of what she did seemed to go unnoticed and unappreciated. “Is it worth it?” she often wondered. “Is there something better that I could be doing with my time?”

"It was during one of these moments of questioning that she heard the still small voice of her heavenly Father speak to her heart. “You are a wife and mother because that is what I have called you to be. Much of what you do is hidden from the public eye. But I notice. Most of what you give is done without remuneration. But I am your reward. Your husband cannot be the man I have called him to be without your support. Your influence upon him is greater than you think and more powerful than you will ever know. I bless him through your service and honor him through your love.

"Your children are precious to Me. Even more precious than they are to you. I have entrusted them to your care to raise for me. What you invest in them is an offering to me. You may never be in the public spot light. But your obedience shines as a bright light before me. Continue on. Remember you are My servant. Do all to please Me.”

~ Roy Lessin
Oh, aren't these encouraging words?  When we do all these things for our families, it may be hard.  No one may notice day to day.  But God sees all we do.  Let's remember that.

Have you gotten your Home Management bundle yet?

Help for Your Most Important Work (at Home!)

Hello Dear Ones,

I have received some messages asking where I've been and if everything is alright.  Yes, everything is alright, but life has just been busy.  As I get older and now have grown daughters helping out with many things, I often wonder how I managed so many years without them helping in such ways.  But with the Lord's help I did.

I have also been told many times by ladies that my posts here are an encouragement, and that people still enjoy reading my blog.  So, as long as that is still happening, I will keep writing as time permits.  I don't think there is enough encouragement in the Christian world for women to be devoted keepers at home.  And don't we all need that encouragement?

Even though I have been a homemaker for many years now, I still try to educate myself about things in the home, and I look for better ways of doing things.  I definitely still feel like I have room for improvement, especially when it comes to time management.  There are other areas too which I feel I lack in.  It is my hope that each year I can become better and better at my work here, not to please myself, but to do a good job for the Lord and my family.  Sometimes I find some gems on the internet that are of great help in learning new things or better ways of doing something--usually things other ladies have kindly shared.

I wanted to share with you all one such mighty gem that I've learned about.  I've actually shared about it years ago because it has been around for that long.  What was previously known as the Homemaking Bundle has been renamed the "Home Management" bundle and is available now, but it's new material and goodies.  I looked through what is included and could not believe all of the resources that are in this bundle for such a reasonable price.  There is so much to learn and implement (in the areas you desire, of course--you don't have to do it all!)  There are actually 86 products worth $2,590.13.  But the cost is only $47, or if you'd like the cheat sheets which help you to better navigate all the resources more easily, it is $67.  These resources include 10 eBooks, 36 eCourses, 14 Planners, 19 Printables, 1 Summit, 1 Membership Site, and 5 Workbooks.

Here are the categories that come in this bundle:

  • Beauty & Self Care
  • Cleaning & Decluttering
  • Family Life & Relationships
  • Holiday Fun
  • Homeschooling Your Children
  • Homesteading & Gardening
  • Hospitality
  • In the Kitchen
  • Making a House a Home
  • Managing Your Home
  • Natural Health & Healthy Living
Doesn't that sound so exciting?!  I can't wait to dive into mine.  These categories are all so interesting.  Do you have a favorite one?  I honestly don't think I can pick a favorite.

The Home Management Bundle is available from today until Friday, so hurry to get yours!  If you want to get the 8 free bonuses, then order right away, because those are only available for a day.  I think you will really enjoy this bundle of homemaking resources and will be able to benefit from it.

The True Wife's Kingdom

Home is the true wife's kingdom. Very largely does the wife hold in her hands, as a sacred trust, the happiness and the highest good of the hearts that nestle there. In the last analysis, home happiness depends on the wife.
Her spirit gives the home its atmosphere.
Her hands fashion its beauty.
Her heart makes its love.
And the end is so worthy, so noble, so divine, that no woman who has been called to be a wife, and has listened to the call, should consider any price too great to pay, to be the light, the joy, the blessing, the inspiration of a home.
The woman who makes a sweet, beautiful home, filling it with love and prayer and purity, is doing something better than anything else her hands could find to do beneath the skies.
A true mother is one of the holiest secrets of home happiness. God sends many beautiful things to this world, many noble gifts; but no blessing is richer than that which He bestows in a mother who has learned love's lessons well, and has realized something of the meaning of her sacred calling.

Two Adams?!

God didn't make two Adams to go out from the home and leave the children. He made an Adam and an Eve. He planned for the mother to be in the heart of the home and embrace and nurture children.

A Woman Interested in Eternal Things

“The most radical thing that will set you apart as a raving revolutionary is to be a woman at home with your children, bucking the whole system of materialism, bucking the whole system of secularism . . . and saying: I’m not interested in me, myself, and I, my body, or whatever. I’m interested in eternal things because what these children are, are the only things in this life that I can take to heaven. And so they are the only investment.”

Careers are Abnormal for Women

"It is vital and it is our duty before God to pass good mothering to future generations. Career is not where we should be leading our girls. It seems to me that motherhood is normal and career is abnormal. It is quite a normal thing for a mother to teach her daughters how to be the loving heart of the home. She needs to pass on the gentle arts of sewing, quilting, knitting, crochet and many of the other fine needle arts. These are the works that keep the female heart with a contented spirit."

Homemakers Are Serving God

"You are as much serving God in looking after your own children, and training them up in God's fear, and minding the house, and making your household a church for God, as you would be if you had been called to lead an army to battle for the Lord of hosts." -Charles Spurgeon

A Woman's Place is in the Home

"A woman's place is in the home not because she isn’t good enough for the world but because she is too good for it. A woman’s precious gifts are squandered when she gives herself to the making of a dollar rather than a home. The world, its corporations, bureaucracies, and agencies are profane entities that are unworthy of a woman’s devotion and are unable to value the feminine charism. These profane entities coarsen, poison, and suck dry the maternal heart."

Distractions and Fear Mongering

I don't know about you, but I am so sick of hearing about coronavirus.  I think a lot of it is fear-mongering to distract us from other things.  When doing my shopping this week online, I was barely able to get deliveries scheduled--no doubt because a lot more people are having their groceries delivered instead of going out to get them.  One store's website kept having technical errors, perhaps due to too many people on it at once.  And then, when I went to purchase toilet paper because we are running out, I could hardly find any to buy!--all because people are giving way to this fear the media is spreading like wildfire.  People are being completely selfish and stockpiling things they don't need.

We, as Christian homemakers, may just need to turn the news off until this passes.  We should be focusing on our homes and families and doing what we can for their health--feeding them healthy, home-cooked meals, for one.  It is processed foods and white sugar that harms our immune systems.  Also, as time permits, learn about treating your own family's health.  In the past, I have learned about essential oils and herbs, and then came to learn about homeopathy.  Homeopathy is my favorite.  We use it all the time for both acute and chronic conditions, and I am prepared with remedies, should the need arise.  Most importantly, we know that the Lord is in control, and as we obey Him, we need to trust in Him to take care of us through all these trials.  You may find this earlier post I have written, helpful ~ Protecting Your Mind as a Homemaker

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I don't want to live in fear, but one thing that does bother me is the things those in high places are trying to do while we are distracted by this virus.  For those of you interested, I'm copying some information on what the government has been up to, below.
Copied:
In case you haven't noticed, while everyone is distracted by all the coronavirus fear mongering, THIS is actively happening👇🏼🙄😧
SIX states across America are now in violation of the constitution and have stripped their people of their rights, removing exemptions for vaccines - medical, religious and philosophical. Some of these apply to homeschooling children as well or will eventually as new bills are passed.
👉MISSISSIPPI, CALIFORNIA, WASHINGTON, NEW YORK, NEW JERSEY AND MAINE.👈
➡️ Last month CONNECTICUT passed a bill to remove religious exemptions.
🚫 COLORADO has bill SB 163 going into Senate that removes exemptions and discriminates/mandates review of those choosing not to vaccinate or delay them.
🚫 ILLINOIS has a couple bills, one is to mandate HPV, another bill SB 3668 is to remove religious exemptions and allow for minors to consent on their own to vaccines.
🚫 FLORIDA has a bill SB 64 That would remove religious exemptions and restrict medical exemptions.
➡️ HAWAII passed bill HAR 11-157 that goes into effect soon that mandates the CDC schedule from childcare through college, adding additional vaccines/boosters including FLU and HPV and more for college entry.
🚫 IOWA bill HF 206 is out to remove religious exemptions
🚫 MASSACHUSETTS has a couple bills to remove religious exemptions, get approval from the government for medical and religious exemptions, mandate HPV and allow minors to consent on their own.
There will be more - in your state and added to these states. For homeschooling, for mandates, for consenting minors, for workplace mandates without exemptions, for public notice of vaccination status, for adult vaccine mandates.
IT DOESN'T MATTER IF YOU ARE FOR OR AGAINST VACCINES - THIS IS ABOUT FREEDOM, choice and the overstepping of the government officials who are in violation of the oaths they took and the Constitution that SAYS this is not legal.
Take a stand, join the fight, raise your voices, put them on notice. Please, before we lose all of our personal and parental rights.
https://www.nvic.org/Vaccin…/state-vaccine-requirements.aspx
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

National Vaccine Information Center is a reliable source of information.  I know some women hate the talk of vaccines and never look into it themselves and have even accused me of being "political" when I post something about them.  But this is not "political"--this is to be informed for the sake of our family's health, and also our freedoms.  Surely this is something important for mothers to do.  No one should be forced to put anything into their children's or their own bodies against their will.

Also, it has been shown that there is a connection between receiving a flu vaccine and being susceptible to coronavirus.

“Receiving influenza vaccination may increase the risk of other respiratory viruses, a phenomenon known as virus interference.”

“Vaccine derived virus interference was significantly associated with coronavirus...”

Time is Fleeting

Look back just a few years ago, and can you see a few changes in your life?  I know I can.  Some of them are drastic.  Several years ago, however, I never would have expected the changes.  The rest of today's post is at Christian Homemaking.  Please join us there.

The Last Homemaker in the World

Sometimes we women can get very discouraged in our role of homemaker.  We expect and want praise and recognition for the job we do at home.  It used to be that the homemaker's role was highly revered and respected, but for many, this is no longer the case.  To the Church's shame, it is largely not even being taught to young girls, but they are instead encouraged to "aspire" to some worldly profession outside of the home.  We housewives are seen as abnormal, not even to the unsaved, Godless world, but many times to those in the Church.

If this is your reality, are you letting it bring you down?

My question to you today is, What if you were the last homemaker in the world?

What if all the other women had left their children to be looked after by someone else? What if all other parents shifted their parental duties off to strangers?  What if no one else taught their dear children at home, raising them in the nurture and admonition of the Lord?  What if all other women had jobs outside of the home?

What if you were the only one left who stayed at home and made sure your husband had a haven of rest when he came home?  Who took care of the home with love, who trained up your children at home in the fear and wisdom of God? What if you were the only one left who taught her own children at home?

Would you still do it?  Would you still stand?

This is the courage and conviction we need to have now, as if we are the last ones standing.  The battle is so great.  We must stand strong for our families and for the Lord.  Many women are persuaded to leave their posts at home.  Many women look on to friends or family who do not see the importance, value, and mandate for women to be keepers at home, and they have let the Enemy deceive them into thinking it's not so important after all.  Or they have been lulled to sleep by the wicked one, thinking it doesn't really matter.

But it does.  As for now, you are not the last homemaker in the world.  We do have some fellow sisters in Christ who are standing.  Let us lift up each other's arms for the battle and encourage each other to stand fast in this important, God-given work we have to do.

Ways Women Take on a Masculine Role

We need to be supportive of our husbands in their masculine role of being leaders, providers, and protectors.  We should be aware of the ways women take on masculine roles so that we do not do the same to our husbands.  It is easy to adopt a feminist mindset, as it has become so deeply ingrained in our society.  We may have certain feminist views that we are not even aware of.

Women take on masculine roles when they enter the workforce and compete with men for greater achievement, higher positions, and earning more money.  We learn all the way back in Genesis that it is the man's role to be a provider and not a woman's (Genesis 3:16, 19).  If a woman is working, a man will not feel as great a need, if any, to work by the sweat of his brow to provide for his family.

Women also take on masculine roles when they try to take over leadership in the home instead of trustingly looking to their husbands for guidance and a strong arm to lean on.  The leadership position was given to husbands by God Himself.  This doesn't mean that we have no opinions or wisdom, especially in our own sphere of the home, but often women neglect looking to their own husbands for guidance.  Even taking over the masculine chores around the house takes over something a husband can and should be doing, unless there is a real emergency where he is unable.

Some women think they are "helping" their husbands by doing these things.  But really, they are hindering their husbands, because the wives are taking on the husbands' role instead of focusing on their own duties.  When we take on masculine roles instead of letting our husbands do them, it harms the family.  It is detrimental to our husbands' feeling of being needed as the leader, protector, and provider for his family, which God created him to be.  It also causes us to be less feminine and creates more stress in our own lives.  We also neglect important functions in our own role as wife, mother, and homemaker.

Another Free, Old Homemaking Book

Dear Ladies at Home,

Some of you have made requests for me to post more of these books, so I'm writing just another quick post today to give you a link to another free homemaking book.  The Book of Household Management by Mrs. Isabella Beeton has been republished in a sort of e-book form, so you may find it easier to read than the last one.  This one was published in 1861 originally and contains a lot of recipes.  Again, I'm not sure how practical it is, but it's sure to be interesting.  If you're looking for the original version, there are a lot of options to download here.  Also, if you prefer print versions, a lot of these old books can be purchased from Amazon or perhaps eBay.

I hope you enjoy this!

Free Homemaking Book (an Old One)

If you enjoy old, free homemaking books, you might want to see this one.  In past years, there have been several books published about keeping the home. I have not read this one, so I cannot say whether it is good or not.  I will leave that up to you.

This book was first published in 1915 and is entitled Household Engineering; Scientific Management in the Home, and its purpose was to help women run their households more efficiently.  Of course, some things won't apply to us--such as servants (smile), but it may still be an interesting read.

When Mommy's Unwell, and How to End 2018

I had the best plans for this little holiday break, from Christmas to New Year's.  My husband was going to have time off from work, so we would firstly have some lovely time together as a family.  We were finally going to have a nice break from homeschooling, which I really don't mind doing--school is part of our daily routine, and it makes the day seem "normal" and put together.  But, I was looking forward to this short break to spend with the family.  We would spend quality time together as a family, probably playing some games, reading, having Bible studies, and other things.  I was going to spend some time catching up on checking the children's school work.  I was hoping to take the little ones aside to the kitchen with me at different times to make some sweet goodies that I have been meaning to make for some time for the family.  We normally have dessert only once or twice a week, but this was to be a special time of celebrating!

I had spent lots of time shopping for special gifts for the children and my husband this year.  I was anticipating everyone opening their presents, hoping they would like what they received.  Everything went well on Christmas Day, with the family opening their lovely gifts from each other.  But in the evening, I started feeling unusually tired and had a funny feeling in my throat.  I fell asleep while we were watching a creation video and felt even worse when I woke up.  It was during this night of sleep that I knew something was very wrong!

I woke up feeling just horrible, after a restless night of sleep.  I soon determined that I had come down with the flu.  There went my plans!  I have stayed in my room most of this time, not wanting to spread my sickness to the rest of the family.  When part of me feels better, I will have another symptom worsen or a new one crop up, so I stay longer in my room.  When I've been feeling a little bit better, and no one else has been at home, I have had to go down to the kitchen to get myself a cup of tea or some water.  Then I have seen the state of our kitchen--it is just not the same when Mommy is not around!  Everyone has their own chores to do and set chore times during the day, but it is quite different when the "head housekeeper" is not around to check on what sort of job everyone has been doing.  I have older daughters, but they don't always do the very best job they could do.  I have been training them up in order to help out at home and to be prepared when they, Lord willing, have their own homes and families.  But they are not fully grown yet, and some are better than others at cleaning thoroughly and taking care of extra messes.  I long to be down with my family, back into routine, the busyness of keeping the home and looking after the children, but the Lord has other plans for me.

As mothers, there's not much we can do when we fall ill.  The home will not be in as good of shape as when we are around and feeling well.  Some times, it seems as if these interruptions just keep coming, and that we will never catch up on our work.  Each time we make a little headway, it seems that something else comes along to take us backwards and get us more behind.  So it is with life on this earth, isn't it?  We are working against the tide of decay and of sin, that forever gives us work to do.  This is how it will be as long as we are here on this earth.  Each day is a gift from Him, and we never know which day will be our last.  Instead of fretting, we must remember to ask the Lord every day to help us with what each day brings.  Even when we tire, and feel weak, He never does, and He is always ready to hear our cries for help.

I am thankful and hopeful that my sickness will soon be over.  My time here in bed and in my room has not been wasted, because the Lord has ordained it.  I hope you all are doing well and feeling better than I am (smiles).

Now, How to End 2018
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The following is an excerpt from the diary of James Smith:
December 31, 1855.
The last day of the year 1855--a year characterized by . . .
many severe trials,
many sore temptations,
and innumerable mercies.
In some things, it closes differently to what I expected--but how differently it may have closed!
I might have been in Hell! O terrible thought!
I might have been on a sick bed, tormented with excruciating pain, or reduced to a state of infantile weakness.
I might have been in great and sore troubles, tossed with tempests, and not comforted.
I might have been without a pastorate--and without a loving people.
Or I might have been guilty of some heinous sin, lost my character, and been a fugitive and a vagabond on the earth!
Blessed, forever blessed be the Lord--that such is not my case!
My health is good,
my hope in Christ is steady,
my congregation good, and
I trust the Lord will yet work a great work by me.
And now, Lord, I desire to confess before you the sins of this past year:
I have sinned with my tongue--and with my temper.
I have sinned in my heart--and in my life.
I have omitted duties.
I have committed sins.
My motives have often been impure.
My aims have not been sufficiently high and holy.
I have been impatient, fretful, irritable, rash, jealous, envious, discontented and ungrateful.
O may the blood of Jesus wash out every stain!
I renounce all hope--but what centers in Jesus!
I have no refuge, no hiding-place, no strong tower, no place of safety--but Jesus.
Christ in His person,
Christ in His finished work,
Christ in His glorious intercession--
is all my hope, all my confidence, all my joy!
I am His servant--and wish to serve Him alone.
I am His subject--and wish to be ruled by Him alone.
I am His purchased property--and wish to be consecrated entirely, eternally, and altogether to Him!
Phone Etiquette
Some mothers at home have a problem of receiving phone calls all throughout the day.  This can cause a great interruption to a busy day of homeschooling and homemaking, so what is a mother to do?
First off, we must realize that we shouldn't expect others to be available every time we want to get a hold of them.  Our modern conveniences of telephones, cell phones, email, social media, etc. have left some people very impatient to have an immediate reply when they want to speak to someone.  But we must be more considerate.
Just because a mother or housewife is at home and not employed outside the home, does not make her completely available to everyone who wants to reach her.  There is much to get done during the day, and especially if she is spending time with her children or husband, she shouldn't be expected to drop everything when someone rings.  While a housewife does have a great deal of freedom with her time, that does not mean that she has time for every interruption.  A housewife's schedule and responsibilities should be respected by others.
Of course, we know that sometimes we will have interruptions, and we must deal with them graciously.  But to always have them coming into our day is not helpful or conducive to accomplishing what is needed in the home.
There are things a housewife can do to help with these interruptions.  If you have Caller ID, you can see easily if the phone needs to picked up.  If not, most households have an answering machine or voicemail that can be used to screen calls for an emergency.  Phone calls can be returned at a set time that won't interrupt the family's day.  Another polite way to contact people is email, as an email can be answered when the receiver is able.
Unfortunately, some people are pushy and not understanding about a homemaker's time, and still expect to be answered immediately.  You may have to graciously explain that you are unable to answer all the time, but that you will respond when you are able.
In the same vein, it is really impolite to break off in the middle of a conversation with someone to answer a text or phone call from someone else.  It is like allowing a person to pop up in the middle of you and the person you were having time with, who starts talking about something completely different.  This is a major problem in our modern technology age, but we should be considerate of those immediately around us, and remember that a message can always be checked, and a phone call returned at a more convenient time.
“Every one must have remarked how pleasant is that household in which a cheerful spirit of energy is cultivated by the mistress and mother. It is a pleasant thing to dwell with one who is not troubled by trifling annoyances, who is skilled in looking at the bright side of things, and hoping for the best; with one who believes that all the ways of the Lord are right, and who attaches a deep importance to duty. Such a one will work willingly, in the belief that God has appointed both her lot and her duties, and it is surprising how many obstacles are met and overcome by such a spirit.”
Ephesians 5:15-17
See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.
1 Timothy 4:7-11
But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness. For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come. This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation. For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe. These things command and teach.
Proverbs 14:23
In all labour there is profit: but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury.
Thank God, O women for the quietude of your home, and that you are queen in it. Men come at eventide to the home; but all day long you are there, beautifying it, sanctifying it, adorning it, blessing it.
Better be there than wear a queen's coronet. Better be there than carry the purse of a princess. It may be a very humble home. There may be no carpet on the floor. There may be no pictures on the wall. There may be no silks in the wardrobe; but, by your faith in God, and your cheerful demeanor, you may garniture that place with more splendor than the upholsterer's hand ever kindled.
Woman with Chrysanthemums
I work for a King. He has put me in charge of his home. When He comes to see how I have managed His possessions and His children, I do not want to be found wanting. I want to do my best. Everything I have is on loan from Him. I have room and board and a job to do, but it is all for Him. Therefore I want to dress my best and do my best in all my work. I also want to be creative, for this is a sincere attempt to glorify Him and His beautiful creation. How I manage my home is a form of worship to Him.
"Mother and Daughter" by Jan Frederick Portielje
"Mother and Daughter" by Jan Frederick Portielje
The requirement of unquestioning obedience by any human authority is a sin and defiles the very intent of God's Word. The unquestioning obedience which Scripture requires is only to God, never to kings, rulers, employers, husbands, or parents. To render unquestioning obedience is sin.
