Sending Your Children to School is a Horrible Mistake

"Maybe twenty years from now the Christian parents who are sending their children to government schools will wake up and recognize that this was a horrible mistake - that this was tantamount to child abandonment, child endangerment, and child abuse. But now they defend it as a spiritual thing - 'helping our children to be missionaries.' Little do they realize that they are asking PAGANS to disciple their children to become PAGANS. And it's horrifying."
-- Phillip Kayser

How very true.  Christian parents need to be aware and wake up to this fact--that when they send their children off to public school (government school), they are sending them off to be indoctrinated by pagans, by those who defy the Lord and have no interest in Him.  Why?  Why send our precious gifts from God to be spiritually slaughtered in their minds and hearts?  Should we not take great care to train them up ourselves?  We need to take great care with our children. They were not given to be missionaries when they are yet children and unconverted.  Even if they've been born again, they are not spiritually fit to take on a school system of unbelief and antagonism towards God.  And Psalm 1 says:
1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
4 The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.
5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
6 For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

  1. I agree with this 100%. After homeschooling my oldest daughter through elementary school, we allowed her to return to public school for high school as it was her wish. It turned out to be an enormous mistake. Her innocence was destroyed and she was exposed to things that are not decent even for adults to see. Worse, her personal beliefs and values are now completely opposite to what we would wish for her. She rejects Christianity completely and is instead interested in Eastern religions and other worldly ideas (feminism, socialism, etc). All of this she learned in school. It's very painful for me to witness and I feel like we unwittingly threw her to the wolves. If anyone reading this is considering sending your child to high school, please reconsider. Public school is not like it was when we were young - it is much, much worse.

  2. Amen! This is why we continued our homeschool journey up through our son completing High School. We pulled him from public school after he finished his 1st grade year. Wish we had started much sooner, but glad we didn't wait longer than that.

Laura, I'm so sorry to hear that about your daughter. I pray her eyes are opened to the real truth about the lies behind those things. I know your story will help others to think about the dangers.

  3. I went to public school through High School. I would not send any of my children to public school in this world we live in now.

  4. Our son went to public school from Kindergarten through 2nd grade and that was enough for me. I could no longer send him off to that kind of environment. Homeschooling was the best thing we did - it is not perfect and it isn't a guarantee that they will do what's best after they're out of the nest, but it's a foundation for them to build on with morals and standards instilled at an early age by which to live "and when they are old, they will not depart from it." I totally disagreed with the parents that said they were sending them to school so they could be salt and light to other kids - all I saw was that the children from "good" homes got into just as much trouble as the other kids.

  5. I would eat potatoes every night, I say now, in order to be able to afford to stay home and home school our children. Sadly, we did not do this. God has been merciful to us, but we have had many heartaches because of the world being allowed in. Lauren Jeanne, keep loving your daughter, praying, and have hope in God. He is our wonderful, merciful Savior.

  9. Marilyn~
So did I and it was awful. Preachers in the 1950's were sounding the warning call even then, but sadly, we can see that many parents didn't listen, and it has now become the norm for most Christians to send their children to such a place to spend their days.

You're right that it's no guarantee, but nothing we do is. It is still our responsibility to do what is right before the Lord, always, and we leave the results with Him. The peer pressure children have to put up with in public schools is atrocious. Even adults give in to peer pressure, and we expect them to do better?

Your heart is in the right place. The consequences of our actions are often hard to deal with--how thankful we must be for the Lord's mercy! Thank you for sharing with us.
