Dear Church,
It's time to stop saying we are not "called to judge." That's a gross misinterpretation of the Bible's clear teaching on the importance of using wise and biblical judgement. This whole "judge not" thing takes one phrase out of context and then uses it as an excuse to turn a blind eye to sin under the guise of "mercy." Hogwash!
We are called to use good judgement and to judge those inside the church. To not hold our own accountable is not only unwise, it's unbiblical.
We cannot use God's standard of judgment for those outside the church but it's high time we began to hold God's own accountable to the standard of God's Word. To love without speaking the truth is not really love at all.
~Heidi St. John
1 Corinthians 5:12
For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within?

A commenter has offered these additional Scriptures:
John 7:24
2 Timothy 4:2
Titus 2:15
1 Corinthians 2:15
Ephesians 5:11
1 Corinthians 2:15
Ephesians 5:11
Love this so much! To the world, good judgement is “hate” or “bigotry”.

ReplyDeleteWe are still to identify and to discern this and that's all around us, outside of the church, to avoid falling into sin traps, and to warn others.
