Momma Sets the Tone of the Home

Momma does.  If Momma wakes up grumpy, the children are soon to follow.  If she greets Hubby with a frown, soon he will probably be frowning too.  Breakfast is a burdensome task...just has to be done.  The children start bickering with each other.  If Momma asks them to do something they give a big *sigh*.  Husband keeps his distance from Momma and tries to tune out all the bickering and complaining.

In contrast...if Momma wakes up and decides to be cheerful, to greet everyone with a smile...the children are soon to follow too!  They more easily laugh and play instead of bickering.  To help Momma is a good thing, and they run up to her and hug her tight.  Husband is happy that he has a happy, joyful wife.  He smiles too.

By being cheerful, Momma is training her children to be cheerful.  Momma is happy to be serving her family and providing their food and cleaning their home.  She is showing her children that they are truly the blessings that the Lord says they are.  But if she lets the worries of this world (or of her household) determine her demeanor,  she is training her children to do the same.

Let us walk on and give God thanks, even during hard times.  Our hope comes from Him.

But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee. (Psalm 5:11)

Remember, Smile!

  1. Lovely post! Called to mind Proverbs 31:28: "Her sons have risen up and proceeded to pronounce her happy; her owner [rises up], and he praises her."

  2. what a lovely post!

One of our little one is, how can I put it, well she is not a morning person!!!! She always wakes up on the wrong side of the bed, so it seams, and it's a real challenge for us to try to train her to be cheerful, thankful and agreeable!!! This is not a habit that we want to foster, nor does it does the family any good, cause she can put all of us in a bad mood :-) So I totally believe that as a Mother my attitude can have the same ripple effect as hers!!!

Still trying to figure out why my smiley cheerful morning greeting makes her frown???

Sometimes things are not always black and white!

  3. Mrs. Q,

I give a big hearty, "Amen" to this post! Although I am not currently a mamma (frowns), I notice when I am in a sour mood, my husband soon becomes sour or sad as well. Attitude definately is everything!

  4. Hi Mrs. Q, what a lovely post and so true. My husband and I were just discussing this very subject the other day. I especially like the part about being cheerful in the morning. So many times we have heard someone give the excuse for unpleasant behavior by saying "I'm not a morning person". It's true, many of us are not, but setting the example as you do, to teach your children to be cheerful in the morning is a wonderful thing and it is going to help them in so many ways in life! I appreciate all the encouraging topics you consider in your blog. Have a nice evening! Delisa :)

  6. Mrs. Stam~maybe there is another cause such as not getting to bed early enough, not sleeping well or something like that???

Lady Rose~still praying about that, dear, and thank you all for your sweet comments :)

  8. This is so true my friend!
I need to exercise some discipline to keep a cheerful demeanor in the morning.
I don't sleep too well, but it pays to put effort into being pleasant when waking.
It can affect the whole day!
My husband watches the TV news as soon as he wakes and this is no good for me, so I have a quiet cup of tea in the bedroom and pray while he eats breakfast outside with the news.
It works well for us :-)
    blessings..Trish
