Be Vigilant

Lately I have been feeling the pull.  The devil has been prowling.  Seeking.  Searching.  Wanting to destroy.

1Peter 5:8  Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

There is a battle we fight.  It is not against flesh and blood.  We must be ever vigilant.

Ephesians 6:12  For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

The devil wants to plant fear in my heart.  I am weary under the battle and the fierceness of the wickedness of this world.  I will try to find my peace but in the midst of home little fires keep coming in.  I rush to put them out and stamp them underfoot.  The little fires burning are not the ones that give us warmth, but destroy.  Sometimes I think I'm alone and the whole house will burn down under the flames.  Sometimes I think I'm the only one trying to put out the fires.  There are too many and the little ones leak in and if I don't get to them quickly they will grow and spread.  My earthly protector has fallen by the wayside and so I'm tricked into feeling alone.  But there is One greater than I who has all the fires in His hand.  If I stop to pay attention I realize that He doesn't let anything pass our threshold without His knowledge.  He is there with me fighting in the flames, alongside me and able to quench all of the wickedness away.  He has not left me alone in the battle.  If only I could see through the smoking fire I would see that my Lord and my God is there, holding my hand, and fighting with me.

Momma bathes herself in the Word.  The fresh, pure water gives strength to my soul.  I am renewed and ready to face the battle.  As often as I am able, I pour the pure water of The Word into the souls of my children.  All day long I will speak of my God to our children.  The evil influences do not pass this door by me as I seek to make this home a sanctuary from the world.  What I bring in here are things that will honor the Father.  His Word is on our hearts, in our minds, on our tongues.  I pour out the Living Water of the Word over my house as I seek to quench all those little fires.  Little children are bathed in the Words of a holy God.  Husband receives blessing from a wife not quick to become angry.  Momma serves and tends to the wounds of the hurting, the needy.  Peace.  Peace.  Peace.  We sing psalms, and hymns, and spiritual songs.  The little fires will come again, but I will put them out by the purity and cleansing of The Word.  God will uphold me in His strength.  The water of The Word is gentle and soothing, but it is also strong.

Hebrews 4:12  For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

What can a momma do to protect the children from the evils of this world?  She is probably with them more than anyone, so her influence can reach far.  She can make sure not to bring in ungodly books, magazines, movies, TV shows.  She can bring in the goodness and purity of God's Word through reading it aloud or listening on CD.  She can bring in music that gives glory and praise to God, and not bring in music that doesn't.  She can speak with kindness, and with thoughtfulness.  She can remain sweet in the face of adversity, for her hope comes from the Lord.

  1. Mrs Q,

That was such beautiful, anointed writing and so very timely for me. I have been allowing myself to lose my sweetness. It is so important to keep our mind on the Lord and not be overcome with worry. I believe only then can we remain sweet under trials.

    God bless you,

    ~Mrs A

  2. There is so much that we need to be vigilant about, and yes we as mothers should make a effort to be extra careful of what we let come inside our home, we are responsible to protect and shelter our little one, eyes and mind and body while training them to be able to fight the good fight with the full armor of God

  3. Mrs. Q,

You have penned such beautiful words of encouragement in this post.

Even though I am not currently a mama like yourself (but, oh, how I deeply wish I was a mama), I can still apply this message in my home. As wives, we are to build-up our homes and not tear them down, and you have provided some excellent ways in this post on how to do that.

Thank you Mrs. Q. I needed this message today.

    Blessings,

    -Lady Rose

  4. Dear Emily,
I personally know how easy it can be to feel like we're fighting all alone. It is one of the enemy's favourite ways to attack. But as you say, we are NEVER alone for the Lord is with us. He is our ever-present EMMANUEL!!
His word is our strength and joy no matter what befalls us. He pours His grace into weary souls and refreshes the down-hearted. They lift up their faces and say "I will fear no evil, for THOU ART WITH ME!"
Trust in God and faith in His word have brought me through many battles - and will continue to help me overcome.
It's when we get worn down that satan moves in to deliver a fierce blow, and that's when we need the help of our sisters to hold our arms up. Together we can see him vanquished!
All to the glory to God!

Thanking the Lord for you dear friend, and praying many blessings to be upon you as you walk into a new year hand in hand with Him :-)
    love..Trish
