Mommy, I Just Want to Spend Time with You

When our children were smaller, it was easier to have one-on-one time with them.  Days were not wrapped up in schoolwork...Reading time was almost always accomplished before nap time and bedtime.  Morning songs were sung at rising, and bedtime songs were sung before bed.

Sometimes I long for that simpler time...the days when there was no school to do...Life was easy-going, laid back.  Our family has grown and now there are more school subjects to study.  I miss the days of kindergarten and painting simple pictures...Story times on Mama's lap.

But alas, the children grow and there is more to learn, more to do.  Whenever I have an errand to run I always take one child with me, to have some one-on-one time with Mama.  But recently it is never enough!  They want more "special time" with me.

I am continually amazed at how the days, months, and years pass by.  It seems like only yesterday they were only little toddlers...and soon my eldest will be approaching the double digits!  How is my time spent, I have to continually ask myself?  Life gets so busy with homemaking, homeschooling, and cooking for many people.

What ideas do you have to make special time with your children in large families?

  1. We are a small family with all toddlers, so I can't really give you some tips. But one on one time for us, come with potty time LOL you know changing diapers, potty training is a one on one thing we sing, we talk we tickles and we love! Weird I know, gross maybe, but we gotta do what we gotta do for those precious one on one moment over here!

  2. My oldest will be 10 in 8 days...UGH- where did the time go??? I remember his sweet little chubby self snuggling up with me- now he's almost as tall as me! I have been experiencing the same thing with wanting more time- he spends all day with me but still often wants to 'just spend time' with me.

  3. Today I wrote about the push for women to rise to senior positions in companies and the need to employ nannies. I wonder how many of these women will look back on their lives and regret they haven't spent enough time with their children. Or their own children will tell them that they regret not having their mummy around when they needed her. Once our children have grown up, it is too late, we can't get that precious time back, ever.
