Welcome Autumn

Rainy Day in Autumn, Massachusetts, 1857

The first day of Autumn, a great wind blew in, as if on cue that Fall was here.  The extremely warm days turned into a cooler one.  Children who were loathe to go outside because of the hot weather and "too many bugs" ran back and forth outside with abandon, not minding the strong, blowing wind or sand in their faces.

The trees shook with the forceful Autumn wind.  Windows had to be shut down to keep the sand from blowing in.  No air conditioning was needed because God supplied His own.

The sky darkened and a storm came---one of those short, silly storms where the rain beats down hard and the thunder rumbles for just a few minutes.  Then the storm passed and we were left with the realization that Autumn had just swept in, just like it was supposed to.

This week I read a favorite book to my children: The Year At Maple Hill Farm*.  I have read it to them for many years--six now.  We enjoy looking at the pictures and words of the ways the seasons change throughout the year on a farm.

I thank God for the change of seasons.  Fall is my favorite.

  1. It's refreshing and exciting to get that Autumnal feel in the air!
A storm is the perfect reason to get cosy inside with some books, too.
I love the seasons and the way they add different dimensions to home life.

    A blessed Fall to you!

  2. Fall has always been my favorite season. After a long, hot, dry Texas summer, we are ready. Plus, I love the colors of fall.

  3. Hello, This is a very warm Fall so far, but a cold front is on its way.
Our family heats with wood so they have started getting it close to the homes.
My son and his wife live right next door. You might like her blog, it is on my sidebar and is called (God's Grace Overflows) and my daughter who lives in FL. Has one called Addicted To God! I am just so happy to have two sweet ladies who love to be homemakers! Have a wonderful new season! I enjoy visiting you!
    Blessings Always, Roxy

  4. Hi Roxy. We are having some cooler days now but it looks like it's going to be warm again for a little bit soon.
How neat that you live next to your son and his wife. I will check out those blogs you mentioned and yes, what a blessing they love to be homemakers! Blessings to you ♥

  5. Whilst you head into Autumn (also my favourite season) we are heading into Spring - spring has some lovely warm days, but it can also be very windy and stormy with quite unpleasant weather (yesterday was very windy - but it did dry the washing beautifully). I use to live in the tropics where we didn't have the 4 seasons and I really missed those changes in the weather.

    1. Ah, yes, I've lived somewhere where there weren't very distinguished seasons either, and I sure missed them! So glad to live somewhere now with real seasonal changes.
